In the review of behavior management, make sure you share with your mentor what is working and why.

ACT 6

Keeping ALL Students Engaged

Key Question: How can you be sure to include all students?

Directions: You need to continually think about ways in which to modify lessons for the diverse learners in your classroom. By December, these continual modifications get tiring, and sometimes, you just want to keep moving along with the curriculum, leaving some students behind. Review the individual education plans (IEPs) with your mentor to see if any of the students who are struggling have special needs. The strategies for teaching special needs students can be effective for all students. Review the modifications and make sure you understand them.

Examples of modifications: Give a student more time to complete an assignment.

Assign fewer questions or examples to be completed.

Allow students to tape-record their answers instead of writing.

Work with a partner who would write the answers the student stated verbally.

Accept printed work instead of cursive.

Use the computer to complete work.
